North Georgia Hiking Elopement

Eloping couple looking at a mountain sunset.

Hi there, and welcome to another beautiful love story. If you have been exploring my website for a bit, you have no doubt seen some of these photos of Patricia and Abimael. From the moment I met this couple, I knew we were going to get along and have the most epic adventure elopement in North Georgia.

Their Instagram accounts were filled with sunset hikes at Stone Mountain and adventures all over the United States. These two met in Atlanta over some Portuguese music in a club. They looked at each other in that moment and said, “Brazilian?” From that moment on they became best friends adventuring the world together building their relationship on each hike and each campfire that they sat around together.

Patricia and Abimael were already married for 3 years and had a big traditional wedding. Realizing how much they had changed since getting married that day, they wanted to “re-do” their wedding day with a hiking elopement in their favorite state park in Georgia, Black Rock Mountain State Park. They wanted to have the intimate moments that an elopement allows for. They wanted to experience getting married whilst doing the thing they love doing most together, being in the outdoors and talking about life together.

Once they said they wanted to do their elopement in Black Rock Mountain State Park, I went in to location scouting beast mode.

One of my favorite parts about being an elopement photographer is getting to work with couples to choose their dream location that matches their vision, activities they want to do, and number of people they need to accommodate.

Couple Smiling and Laughing

I have been all over Georgia too, so I have lots of recommendations for my couples that want to elope in my home state.

Through my location scouting I found that a trail within the park would be perfect for Sunset and creating organic and intimate moments that they wanted. We barely saw anyone on the trail that evening!

We started the hike around 4 o’clock in the evening that day so we could take our time on the way up the mountain. Along the way we really connected on a personal level and shared our love for adventure with each other. Patricia and Abimael spoke to me about how they want to visit every National Park in the United States and we reminisced about the ones we had already been to.

This is another thing I love about elopements is that I don’t just feel like “the help” for the day, I feel like a friend that is spending the day with you and capturing every moment.

They even taught me some Portuguese along the way as English is not either of their first language.

Once we got to the top of the mountain, I played their first dance song for them on my speaker. They danced on top of the mountain with the sun beginning to set behind them and the beautiful sounds of nature around them. It was such a beautiful and intimate moment to witness and I was grateful for the opportunity to capture it! After the first dance, we all watched the sun go down together across the North Georgia Mountains. It was an incredible evening and they got to have the intimate moments they didn’t get to experience during their wedding.

Patricia and Abimael, I am forever grateful for the opportunity to photograph this journey for you and get to know you as fellow adventurers and friends. Obrigado.
